„Elevate US“: Performance Improvement at thyssenkrupp Elevator in the USA

Numerous thyssenkrupp business entities have achieved global market-leading positions. The most important thing is to avoid stagnation and give our best to constantly identify ways to make thyssenkrupp even better. Nonetheless, it is key to avoid standstill and to identify new opportunities to improve thyssenkrupp even more.

thyssenkrupp Elevator US is one of these market-leading businesses. It is a key player in one of the most important elevator and escalator markets worldwide. TKMC was asked to identify further improvement potential in order to boost and expand the position of thyssenkrupp Elevator US.

Our team conducted a 4 months nation-wide benchmarking project in Tampa/Florida.

„elevate US“: Performance-Steigerung bei ThyssenKrupp Elevator in den USA

Our approach: Deep-dive analysis in collaboration with our client thyssenkrupp Elevator US

In a first phase we analyzed the most important performance levers for selected competitors and modelled the margin effect for all performance drivers. Besides extensive desk research our team conducted numerous interviews with employees across the USA and visited many branches to identify best practices.

In the second phase the most promising levers were analyzed in more detail. However, just excellent analyses do not lead to better results. Therefore, it was upmost important to us and our client to transfer our results and recommendations into an implementation roadmap which is fully supported by top management and the local team. In our opinion, this is the only way to truly push the business forward and to generate the expected impact.

Our impact: A contribution to make the business even “better”

Together with top management of the Business Area Elevator Technology and the local executives we identified significant performance potential and provided a major impetus for the change of the US business. Especially during the leadership kick-off meeting in Chicago the real impact of this project became clear to our team – with an appreciative speech of the CEO and workshops with the top executives of thyssenkrupp Elevator US.

Our learnings: Profound understanding of a business in an international setting

As in every TKMC benchmarking project our team had a steep learning curve and gained deep insights into the business of the Business Area Elevator Technology e.g. understanding of the elevator business, market mechanisms, strategy, performance levers and processes.

Besides the analytical problem solving the team also had to show intercultural competences. The challenging task (in an international setting) was to sensitively prove to our already very successful US colleagues improvement potential by new findings and at the same time work trustfully together as a team – and they all did a great job.
