Give us a brief description of your career path to date:

“After completing a degree in mathematics in Bochum I spent several years working for an external consultancy. In 2015 I joined TKMC as a project manager. Since 2017 I have been part of our Steel Europe business area in charge of the program office for the BA-wide strategy program “one steel”.

What experience did you gain at TKMC that is valuable for your current job?

“My time at TKMC was an enormous help in getting to know and understand the overall Group “from the inside”. I carried out projects at almost all BAs and our headquarters. Through my projects and the TKMC alumni I was able to quickly build up a personal network that I still profit from today.”

How do you see TKMC’s role in the Group?

“TKMC plays an incredibly important role for the Group. It combines high-level methodological expertise with a deep understanding of the Group. In its projects TKMC demonstrates that it can operate on a par with the major strategic consultancies. That’s why the TKMC team is always called in when it’s really important. And of course TKMC is also an important recruitment channel for thyssenkrupp.”

What perspectives does working at TKMC open up as you see it from today?

“You quickly come into personal contact with the Group’s top management. And of course you know exactly where interesting developments are about to take place. This, together with the good reputation you enjoy in the Group as a member of the TKMC team, is the ideal springboard for the next stage of your career within the Group.”

What differentiates TKMC from other consultancies?

“One clear difference from external consultants is that our customers don’t just see us as external service providers but as colleagues. That’s a big advantage when it comes to cooperation, and you pick up far more on everything else that is going on with the client.

Comparisons with other in-house consultancies are always difficult, because TKMC is directly tailored to thyssenkrupp. But one good thing about TKMC is that it is still relatively small and comes across a bit like a start-up.”

What do you miss about your time at TKMC?

“Above all I miss the atmosphere during our office Fridays and the intensive collaboration in ever new teams. And of course our joint activities outside the projects.”

Give us a brief description of your career path to date:

“Before I moved to TKMC I spent 10 years as an external consultant at McKinsey and Oliver Wyman among others. Before that I was at Siemens AG as sales and project manager for 7 years and a lieutenant in the Italian engineering corps for 2 years.

In March 2018 I was given responsibility for thyssenkrupp’s strategic development in MENA and moved with my family from Essen to Dubai.”

What perspectives does working at TKMC open up as you see it from today?

“TKMC provides the opportunity to work on broad-based, challenging projects. That helped me in my professional and personal development every day.

With my engineering (MBA) and consultancy background, TKMC offered the best platform to develop my skills and capabilities.”

What differentiates TKMC from other consultancies?

“In my previous jobs I never had the chance to meet and talk directly with the Board. And as an in-house consultant at TKMC I could focus entirely on solving our clients’ problems.”

What do you miss about your time at TKMC?

“I particularly miss the great working atmosphere with my colleagues there.”

Give us a brief description of your career path to date:

“I joined TKMC in 2014 straight after completing my studies at the Technical University of Darmstadt. In 2017 I moved to the corporate strategy department at thyssenkrupp, which by the way is headed by a former managing director of TKMC. Mid of 2018 I moved on to the Business Unit Forged Technologies to take over the role as Head of Business Excellence.”

What experience did you gain at TKMC that is valuable for your current job?

“The single most important thing is the ability to familiarize myself quickly with a very wide range of issues and draw the right conclusions for specific target groups.”

How do you see TKMC’s role in the Group?

“TKMC’s role is to provide the best possible support for the Group’s strategy and pave the way for its long-term implementation. This involves a wide variety of tasks, and that makes the job fascinating. Also TKMC enjoys a very good reputation within the Group, which means that people are happy to call in TKMC as in-house consultants for relevant and critical issues in the Group.”

What perspectives does working at TKMC open up as you see it from today?

“TKMC trains its people to be all-rounders, so the doors are wide open when it comes to a potential switch to another part of the Group. Also, working as a TKMC consultant gives you an insight into many areas of the company. That of course opens up a variety of possible ways beyond the headquarters in Essen. Former colleagues from TKMC have moved as far as Australia, switched to operating roles or like me stayed at the headquarter.”

What differentiates TKMC from other consultancies?

“Obviously the business model is pretty much the same. But I feel the pleasant, down-to-earth culture and our common values clearly differentiate TKMC from others. Since almost everyone aims to work for tk on a long-term basis, a very special bond is created here. That’s really important when you have to spend long periods working together intensively at close quarters. And ultimately that means as well as working together you can also have a lot of fun with your colleagues. I always really enjoyed working at TKMC!”

What do you miss about your time at TKMC?

“The people!”

Anne Kaltenstein

Give us a brief description of your career path to date:

“I already had an interest in consulting and human resources while I was at university studying economics with HR and business development majors. So after I graduated I went to work for a boutique project management consultancy. But I quickly realized that my real interest definitely is in HR, so I then moved to the HR department of a major German engineering company. Finally I joined TKMC in 2012 in the newly created role of Head of Talent Acquisition. I was responsible for building and managing the talent acquisition unit and headed a small team. In early 2017 I moved to my current position in Sourcing & Recruiting Strategy at thyssenkrupp AG.”

How do you see TKMC’s role in the Group?

“The consulting portfolio and the TKMC alumni network now extend to all business areas of the Group and all functions – both in Germany and abroad. With its high standards of consulting quality and performance focus and with the right people, TKMC is now firmly established as a consultancy within the Group. And the large alumni network shows that TKMC has also met another of its goals – to develop the Group managers of the future. So as I see TKMC plays an important and forward-looking role in the Group.”

What perspectives does working at TKMC open up as you see it from today?

“For consultants, TKMC offers the ideal opportunity to get to know the full breadth and depth of an international technology group and quickly build up very good networks. People joining TKMC are trained as generalists, i.e. you get to know the diversity of the Group both nationally and internationally by working on numerous different projects. That offers the ideal platform to gain experience and plot your future career path at thyssenkrupp.”

What differentiates TKMC from other consultancies?

“That’s easy: a highly motivated performance culture, a wide-ranging project portfolio, excellent career opportunities and the kind of team spirit I’ve never experienced before!”

What do you miss about your time at TKMC?

“Luckily for me, I meet current and former TKMC colleagues on an almost daily basis, as well as at our alumni events, and there’s also a great alumni newsletter that keeps us up to date, so I don’t miss too much. In a way I still feel like part of the team. The network lives on, and there are fascinating tasks throughout the Group.

But there is one thing: I do miss our annual offsite events a bit!”

In addition to its successful project work, one of TKMC’s core tasks is to develop colleagues for responsible positions in the Group. On-the-job learning, tailored training courses and a personal career development advisor help constantly improve and expand our people’s capabilities.

We are proud that over the past few years numerous colleagues have moved on to take over positions of responsibility in the Group. A regular newsletter keeps all our alumni up to date with the latest developments and forthcoming events.
