Your previous career path:

After a joint project of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe and the Max Planck Institute for Iron Research, where I did my Ph.D., I experienced two very exciting and valuable years at TKMC. Thereafter I took my current position as manager in the field of Technology, Innovation and Sustainability (TIS) of the Business Area Components Technology.

Which experiences at TKMC are valuable for your current role?

It is actually a long list that needs some prioritization. Right at the top of the list are communication skills across management-levels, the ability to convince people, intense team work, analytical skills and multitasking.

How would you evaluate the role of TKMC within the Group?

TKMC is an important element and multiplier in the transformation process. It provides an external perspective; it is highly dynamic and has a collegial standing. These aspects make TKMC a great and sustainable benefit for the Group.

Which perspectives does a career at TKMC offer?

First of all, working at TKMC broadens your view. The colleagues compile an extensive knowledge about the Group and learn universal skills. Professional expertise, in my case in the field of R&D, will be excellently supplemented with further knowledge and skills, but not substituted. And in a final step TKMC helps a lot to place your “overall package” at a suitable position within the Group later on.

Why would you recommend for graduates to start at TKMC? What makes the difference compared to other consultancies?

In addition to the above mentioned aspects this is a very short answer: the colleagues are awesome! I can’t tell how it’s like at other consultancies though. Candidates should compare and decide for themselves – but TKMC will be hard to top.

Your previous career path in a short form:

After my studies of business administration I worked for one of the leading German management consultancies for five years. Then I started my career at thyssenkrupp in 2009. I was one of the founding members of TKMC and therefore I accompanied the first five years of TKMC – working with the team on the growth and development – from a start-up to an established in-house consultancy. Then in autumn 2014 I was offered the position of the Head of Initiatives & Development at the Corporate Function Strategy, Markets & Development. Since May 2016 I am now Head of PMO elevate Europe Africa at thyssenkrupp Elevator Europe Africa.

Which experiences at TKMC are valuable for your current role?

As a TKMC Consultant I gained extensive knowledge concerning the diverse business models at thyssenkrupp. Thereby, I worked with colleagues on-site on strategic topics like efficiency increases or the development of new markets for our company. At the same time I was able to get to know the daily challenges and demands of the operating businesses. Nowadays, these experiences help me to better categorize strategic implications and to convey that knowledge.

How would you evaluate the role of TKMC within the Group?

TKMC significantly contributes to the performance improvement of our businesses and gives important impulses to the further development of ThyssenKrupp. At the same time the team represents the cultural chance in our company – young colleagues with tremendous analytical competence and fresh ideas work together in a collaborative and appreciating way with experienced experts. That’s how they create added value for the Group.

Which perspectives does a career at TKMC offer?

By working at TKMC you gain deep insights in the company, a steep learning curve and the possibility to build up a broad network within a short time. And you will benefit from in all future positions.

Why would you recommend graduates to start at TKMC? What makes the difference compared to other consultancies?

TKMC is characterized by a high level of professionalism and clearly works on an equal footing with the top leading external consultancies. Also the working atmosphere is shaped by team spirit and mutual appreciation. Compared to external consultancies the TKMC team experiences less “dog-eat-dog mentality” and they identify even more with their results since the own company benefits you are your performance – that creates a lot of motivation.

Your previous career path in a short form:

My career at thyssenkrupp started as a trainee in the Business Area Material Services in 2008. After the trainee program I joined TKMC in 2009. After four years of in-house consulting I was offered a position in the strategy department of the Business Area Components Technology. Since early 2015 I am Special Project Manager and Head of PMO - HR Transformation at the Corporate Function People Development & Executives Management of thyssenkrupp.

How would you evaluate the role of TKMC within the Group?

Within the last years TKMC became established in all business areas of thyssenkrupp. Both their problem solution competence as well as the structured approach is very much appreciated within the whole company.

Which perspectives does a career at TKMC offer?

In my opinion TKMC is the ideal first step to get to know the Group with its diverse businesses and structures. And at the same time you acquire excellent skills and build up an extensive network for your future perspectives within the company.

Why would you recommend graduates to start at TKMC? What makes the difference compared to other consultancies?

Concerning the tasks and topics I think there are only slight differences concerning other (in-house) consultancies. What makes TKMC so special for me is the high level of colleagueship within the team. I enjoyed every working day of those four years. And even in stressful project phases we never missed out on fun.

Your previous career path in a short form:

Overall summary: `Scientific Assistant`, `Entrepreneur`, `Consultant` and finally `Strategist´

After graduating from university I worked as a scientific assistant at the University of Paderborn and after that I was an entrepreneur in the field of system catering. Then I heard of TKMC and joined as a Senior Consultant. That was the best decision for me. I had a steep learning curve and built up a good network so that I was offered the position as “Strategy Professional” in the corporate development of the Group later on. By now I am Head of Strategy, Markets and Development in Indonesia.

Which experiences you made at TKMC were valuable for your present position?

At TKMC I learned the skills of a consultant. For me this especially means the following: hypothesis-based approaches, structuring and especially simplifying complex problems and of course an excellent command of Excel and Powerpoint. These abilities, which you learn from experienced consultants, are also essential for my daily work now.

How would you evaluate the role of TKMC within the Group?

Besides the insourcing of top management consulting, TKMC is the best talent pool of the Group. Among other things TKMC also has the mission to develop the future leaders of ThyssenKrupp.

Which perspectives does a career at TKMC offer?

TKMC provides the opportunity to get to know a global conglomerate that’s offering diverse businesses like steel or plant manufacturing step by step. This is how you can explore future career options according to your personal interests.

Why would you recommend for graduates to start at TKMC? What makes the difference compared to other consultancies?

The business cards the clients and of TKMC have the same ThyssenKrupp brand on it. This helps to quickly gain the trust of the clients. Since client and consultant are “in the same boat” the client can be sure that:

  • Project results are not being displayed too optimistic
  • Identified potential/suggested solutions are realistic and therefore feasible
  • TKMC is available even after the project ends

Since revenue maximization is not the mission of TKMC, they only accept projects that actually create added value for the company.
