Which one of your projects was the most exciting? Why?

My most exciting project was a growth strategy across Business Units within one of our Business Area. TKMC was involved from the very beginning. First of all, we set up the PMO for the program. Furthermore, we set up and supported multiple of the growth projects in regards of strategy and content. The scope of this program and the related responsibility as well as the business insights made this project very exciting.

Which development opportunities do you have at TKMC?

In my opinion there’s no other area within thyssenkrupp that provides as many in-depth business insights as being an in-house consultant. Our “on the job” training allows very steep learning curves. In addition to that I grow with the communicative and content-related challenges – every day. This applies to both my professional and my personal development. Besides our daily project work we have various internal trainings that are customized according to our career level and individual development needs.

Why would you recommend for graduates to start at TKMC? What sets us apart from other consultancies?

If you are motivated to take over an active part in the transformation of a global industrial conglomerate and seeking the challenges and learning curve of strategy consulting – TKMC is the ideal place to start your career. I studied Industrial Engineering and wanted to combine my affinity to engineering with the connection to a global company with solid values. Beyond that, I enjoy the dynamic and driven working style of a consultancy and that I have the possibility to work with the top-management from the very first day.

Why did you decide to work at TKMC?

Regardless of the specific consultancy my advice is to use every interview at TKMC to get to know the specific team and the atmosphere. Teamwork is only fun if the chemistry is right. In my case – everything felt right at TKMC.

What does “You & us. Consulting for the better.” mean for you personally?

On the one hand, we can only achieve sustainable solutions if we work together with our customers as a team – it would be impossible as a “lone fighter”. On the other hand, we are putting our entire know-how and effort in every project in order to reach our superior goal: pushing thyssenkrupp forward.

Which one of your projects was the most exciting? Why?

That’s difficult to answer since each project is very special in its own way. The project I remember very well was a complex and impactful project in the USA. We compared a thyssenkrupp business with its best competitor and identified further performance potential. At first, our critical clients were quite skeptical because they already had a very good market position. In the end we developed a program together that had positive impact on all employees in the entire area – thousands of people. Eventually we were asked to come up to the stage at a top leadership event and they were appreciating our work with standing ovations. That’s something you won’t forget.

Which development opportunities do you have at TKMC?

Plenty! Besides various trainings I learned the most by directly working on the consulting projects, especially since I took over much responsibility at a very early stage. A high level of interaction with my customers and driving topics forward independently result in a very steep learning curve for me. In addition, I ran projects in different thyssenkrupp businesses and consequently I was able to build up expertise within multiple industries.

What do you appreciate the most about the TKMC team?

The best thing about our team is that I learn something new from every single person. Each of us has their own story to tell and brings up new ideas – without any “elbow” mentality. The team mix is the key!

What does “You & us. Consulting for the better.” mean for you personally?

For me it’s an expression of the community of TKMC as part of thyssenkrupp. Being a rather small inhouse consultancy we have a very special team spirit. Everyone knows each other and I have already worked together with lots of colleagues. In addition to that we are part of the conglomerate and work together with colleagues from all business units to achieve one common goal: push thyssenkrupp forward.

What do you appreciate the most about your work at TKMC?

One word: variety. Since I joined TKMC I’ve worked on multiple topics: sales, growth, operations, organization, and transformation – we offer everything that a strategy consultant is looking for. Furthermore, thyssenkrupp as a diversified industrial has a variety of different businesses – industrial goods, plant engineering, automotive, commerce. Therefore we constantly work on exciting new challenges and interesting topics.

What do you appreciate the most about the company culture of TKMC?

I think we have a very good mix. TKMC combines a highly professional working atmosphere and excellent career development perspectives for every consultant with fun within the team. Several colleagues even meet in their free time beside joint team evenings, alumni events and summer offsites. You can sense this great teamplay every day in our project rooms.

Why would you recommend for graduates to start at TKMC? What sets us apart from other consultancies?

In the end this is a very personal decision. I was convinced by the facts that I already mentioned: a diversified global corporation with many interesting business areas; a rather small-sized and young consulting team that wants to achieve something together; the variety of strategic topics. And – very importantly beside the “hard” facts – during my interviews back in 2011 I just felt that the chemistry is right. I think it’s important to feel comfortable at work.

What is your advice for applicants in order to prepare for our Recruiting Day?

As an interviewer I focus on two crucial things: authentic personality & good case performance. We want to get to know the applicants. Especially young professionals tend to give “socially desirable” answers. To fit in with our team you should be authentic. So please don’t just recite answers from application guidebooks. And secondly - it’s very important to take case interview preparation seriously. You need some routine to stay calm and think through the case and to calculate on a blank piece of paper in front of the interviewer. Practice makes perfect.

Being a „child“ of the Ruhr area I am glad to have found an exciting job in the region. I live in Essen and I feel completely at home here. I thoroughly enjoy traveling – which you do quite frequently as a consultant –, but I also welcome every project in the vicinity. So before you speak with my colleagues from Düsseldorf you should definitely talk to me first.

What does “You & us. Consulting for the better.” mean for you personally?

For me “You & us. Consulting for the better.” primarily means that we are consulting for the benefit of our company as a part of the thyssenkrupp family. Together with our clients we strive for good solutions and results to push thyssenkrupp forward.

What do you appreciate the most about your work at TKMC?

On the one hand, I appreciate that TKMC supports many transformation projects that are high on thyssenkrupp’s strategic agenda – from concept to implementation. On the other hand, in the course of the projects at TKMC we get to know the group, the employees, the leadership team, the structures and programs in detail, which allows us to build up on this knowledge on every project.

What do you appreciate the most about the company culture of TKMC?

The company culture is characterized by team spirit and mutual appreciation of individual skills and experiences from other companies and consultancies.

Why would you recommend for graduates to start at TKMC? What sets us apart from other consultancies?

In my view, TKMC as an inhouse consultancy has established itself on par with the top players in the consultancy market. In addition, we are part of the strategy community at thyssenkrupp. TKMC therefore provides the best of both worlds – consulting and company career. We work internationally on strategic and operative topics for both corporate level and the Business Areas and Regional Headquarters. Meanwhile, you build a strong basis for your further career at thyssenkrupp – from the very first day. You build up an excellent network and gain relevant skills as well as deep insights regarding internal structures.

Why did you decide to join TKMC?

After 8 years as an external consultant I joined TKMC as a Manager. I was especially attracted by the possibility to help shape the Execution Taskforce and to go beyond project conception phase and supporting projects also throughout the implementation.

What is your advice for applicants in order to prepare for our Recruiting Day?

We usually have a very good interviewing atmosphere, because we want to get to know our applicants as authentically as possible. I would recommend every candidate to be able to conclusively talk about each station and decision in their CV. Of course, case performance is also very important. For me personally a structured way of cracking a case with good judgement is better than using frameworks.

Would like to add anything else? This is your chance:

thyssenkrupp is in a very exciting phase of change and transformation. At TKMC we have the possibility to actively contribute to shaping the realignment of thyssenkrupp over the next years. It is very rare to have the opportunity to contribute to such an extensive organizational change.
